Shortcuts gets behind Tsunami Hair Raiser

By: Cass Mackie // Date Posted: 28/02/2005 10:45:56 AM

On Saturday February 26, Shortcuts Marketing Manager Jessica Tye and Sales Manager Gavin Hinton attended the Tsunami Hair Raiser event at Sydney’s Town Hall, sponsored by the Australian Hairdressers Journal (AHJ).

The event aimed to raise $50,000 for the Tsunami appeal with all proceeds from ticket sales to be donated to Care Australia. On the night, an impressive $30,671.25 cheque was presented to Care Australia’s Customer Service representative Ms Lucy McAndrews whose gratitude was reflected in her acceptance.

The idea for the event was conceived after hundreds of hairdressers around Australia placed calls to AHJ wanting to know how the hairdressing industry could help the victims and their families of December's devastating earthquake and tsunami.

Triggering a call to action, AHJ prompted a united industry effort by organising and funding the event the night before Hair Congress 2005 also at Sydney’s Town Hall.

Shortcuts testimonial client Lee Cohen hosted the event along with Lee Preston while other guest celebrities such as Barney Martin and Renya Xydis helped make the event a night to remember.

Major names involved in the event, including Shortcuts clients Valonz, Raw Hair and Joh Bailey, all gave their time and effort free of charge to put on a hair extravaganza of incredible proportion for this worthy cause. All artists covered their own show costs, as their personal contribution to the tsunami appeal. Shortcuts managers Jessica Tye and Gavin Hinton flew from head office in Brisbane to attend the event on behalf of the entire Shortcuts team.

Both said the night was incredibly special and the atmosphere energetic.

"The night was an amazing show full of entertainment, to die-for outfits and a light and sound extravaganza. It was the perfect start to a big weekend for the hair industry," Miss Tye said.

"We were honoured to be there on behalf of the global Shortcuts team and proud to be able to make a valuable contribution to the cause," Mr Hinton said.
