Congratulations – you made it through the silly season! 2016 is here, and it’s time to set your eye on the prize and start tackling those business New Year’s resolutions.  No matter what your business goals are for the year – whether it’s attracting new clients, keeping your existing ones loyal, or increasing your profitability – executing a consistent marketing calendar is key.

 

If you’re struggling to find twelve topics to fill out your calendar, the good news is that the year is filled with holidays and events that give you the perfect opportunity to promote your business. Here’s some ideas to get you started:

 

January

In January, your clients are thinking about a fresh start, making it the perfect time to consider a New Year makeover special. It’s also the perfect time to upsell any treatments or services to nourish and prevent sun-damaged skin or hair, and to run a back-to-school or Australia Day promotion.Key events:

  • 1st – New Year’s Day
  • 26th – Australia Day
  • Back to school.

February

Help your clients spread the love on Valentine’s Day with a gift card promotion. As well as email campaigns, don’t forget to place signage in your windows and to promote your offers on social media to catch the eye of your clients’ significant others.  Key events:

  • 14th – Valentine’s Day.

March

The Easter holidays are finally here! It feels like a long time since the last break, and your clients will be ready to treat themselves to a little relaxation. Now is the perfect time to showcase your most tantalising treats and give your clients the down time they deserve.Key events:

  • 17th – St Patrick’s Day
  • 25th-28th – Easter.

April

Did you know, April 30 is Hair Stylist Appreciation Day? This is a great excuse to run a cheeky promotion or fun event in honour of your team. Now is also a good chance to showcase your beautiful staff profiles across your social media channels and website. Key events:

  • 25th – Anzac Day
  • 30th – Hair Stylist Appreciation Day.

May

Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to run package promotions and special events. Why not promote a special to give mothers some much-needed time out? Or a mother-daughter night at your salon?Key events:

  • 8th – Mother’s Day.

June

As winter sets in, add value for your clients by offering them tips and tutorials on how to protect their luscious locks from the winter freeze, via email and social media. By sharing your expertise, you’ll build your clients’ trust and cement your reputation for delivering exceptional service.Key events:

  • 1st – The first day of winter.

July

Invite your clients to celebrate International Friendship Day in style. Offer discounts for group bookings – offer a glass of bubbles, plenty of freebies, and mini pamper-packs all round. This is a great way to keep your existing clients feeling the love, and to attract new ones.Key events:

  • 25th – Christmas in July
  • 30th – International Friendship Day.

August

Brrr, it’s cold outside! Coax your clients through the door with a winter warmer sale to help your clients shake the midwinter blues. Use this time to highlight any services on your menu that help clients keep cosy – think hot stone massages and deep conditioning treatments to add life to dull winter hair.

September

Dads deserve a treat just as much as the rest of us, so now is the perfect time for a Father’s Day gift card promo or a grooming package. This month you could also help your clients spring into the new season by offering revitalising springtime specials. Key events:

  • 1st – First day of spring
  • 4th – Father’s Day.

October

As well as spooky Halloween specials, October is the time to start promoting your holiday offerings. Invite clients to pre-book their holiday party appointments, host an educational event on how to maintain salon styles at home, and bundle retail products together into gift packages. Key events:

November

It might be the race that stops the nation, but it’s one of the busiest times in the hair and beauty industry, so why not make the most of it! Help your clients feel their glamourous best with specials on hair and makeup, or invite them to bring a friend along for a little pre-race pampering.Key events:

  • 1st – Melbourne Cup Day
  • 25th – Black Friday
  • Graduation season.

December

With the holidays in full swing, you might be tempted to forget about marketing for the month – but now is the time to book clients in for January and February to protect yourself from the dreaded post-festive season slow-down. Why not offer an incentive for clients who book their next appointment during this period? Key events:

  • 25th – Christmas
  • 31st – New Year’s Eve.
